We’ll soon be making changes to our media sites for Europe, Canada, and Asia, which include enhancements to the tools, data, and analysis you use to find, evaluate, and keep track of investments.

In addition to these updates, we’ll also be making changes to our membership offerings.

What’s changing

We’ve made the decision to discontinue our paid Premium membership tier alongside select tools and features associated with both Premium and current free memberships. Starting on 17 April 2025, we will no longer offer new Premium memberships and will focus instead on tools and features for our new registered account.

To aid this transition, we will convert all existing Premium and free memberships to the new registered account. We will also retire the following tools and features:

  • Portfolio Manager (for both Premium and free members)
  • Stock analyst research
  • X-Ray and Instant X-Ray
  • Price and company alerts
  • Access to Morningstar ratings within stock screener

What will stay the same

As a free registered user, you’ll still have access to many of the tools and features you’ve come to rely on to find and evaluate investments, including:

  • Watchlists, which will transfer over for current Premium and free members
  • Enhanced quote pages with comprehensive metrics
  • Powerful screeners for funds, ETFs, and stocks
  • Fund and ETF analyst research and ratings, which will soon be freely available to all
  • Articles, commentary, and insights from Morningstar contributors
  • Reports and overviews of market performance
  • Email newsletter subscriptions

You will also be able to sign in using the same email and password associated with your current Premium or free membership.

Why we’re making these changes

Feedback from users, as well as usage data, showed that we needed to shift our focus from portfolio monitoring to easier, more effective ways for investors to research investments and keep up with global markets. This renewed focus will help us deliver enhanced tools and features, unsurpassed data accuracy, regional and local relevancy, and more, so you can make decisions with confidence.

A note to advisers with Premium memberships: Morningstar’s new Direct Advisory Suite––a comprehensive application that streamlines conducting research, building and evaluating portfolios, and generating client proposals––may be a suitable alternative. Direct Advisory Suite is currently available to advisers in North America, with plans to expand into additional markets in EMEA and APAC later this year. Learn more about Direct Advisory Suite here.

What comes next

Here’s what to expect in the coming months:

  • Registration for new Premium memberships will no longer be available starting 17 April 2025.
  • All current Premium and free memberships will be converted to registered accounts. These accounts will be ready to use by June 2025 with the launch of our new global site experience. Current Premium and free members can continue to use their memberships without disruption until then.
  • Current Premium members will receive prorated refunds on their memberships by the end of June 2025.
  • Current Premium and free members will be able to download their portfolio data starting in July 2025.
  • Any watchlists will be migrated over to their corresponding registered account and will be ready for use by June 2025.
  • We’ll share more details about upcoming enhancements to our global media sites, which include more nimble tools and faster ways to navigate our expansive network of coverage.

As we work through these changes, we’re more driven than ever to make it easier––and more enjoyable––to invest for yourself. We’ll continue to keep you updated on our progress and thank you for your continued support.
